Would you be okay with this?

Question

My boyfriend and i have been together for 7 years, since we were 15. About four years ago my boyfriend started abusing/snorting pain pills that weren’t prescribed to him and two years ago he started smoking meth when his neighbor offered it to him. Every time I found out he relapsed I broke up with him. Well this past month he has shown me that he is extremely serious about quitting and getting help for his addiction. He scheduled himself intensive outpatient treatment and got on methadone for his opioid addiction. However he still smokes pot. If your boyfriend/husband had an addiction and was taking treatment seriously, would you be okay with him still smoking pot to get high? (He has said that he will not drink alcohol anymore… he never had a drinking problem but I agree it’s a good idea not to drink). He says the pot helps him and isn’t a trigger for him.

i couldn’t careless about pot, unless you’re an unproductive pothead, those people annoy me. my husband and i both smoke but it helps me focus and he just likes it after a long day of work. i was a pain pill addict for a really long time before quitting and just sticking with weed. if it eases your mind i’m fairly certain a lot of rehabs actually prescribe weed to help get over hard drug addiction. apparently it’s suppose to work similarly to how they have to micro dose heroine addicts to help them wean off the drug without the awful side effects of withdrawal.
but i’m glad you stuck to your boundaries, drug addicts need tough love a lot of the time. and if smoking upsets you then it’s okay to put your foot down

Honestly, marijuana can be used medically more than any of the other drugs and it’s legal in a lot of places now. I would rather my SO use marijuana as a nerve “pill” than I would rather a synthetic since he already has a pill problem. Seriously marijuana is used for so many things medically

I used to be a meth and heroin IV user for about 6 years, I finally decided to clean myself up. I still smoke pot it's the only thing that helps withy mental issues and cravings. They call it California sober 😆 lol. But iv been clean for 3 years off of the hard stuff and couldn't be happier, I know it sounds stupid but marijuana really helps alot. I know everyone is different but this is just my experience.

First, hun I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I'm so sorry this person you love is in this cycle. Addiction is terrible for the addicted and anyone who loves them. Nothing I write is in judgement, just my experiences and opinions.
The thing about being sober is you get sober or you don't. If he needs weed to focus or calm him like other commenters mentioned, he's not ready to be sober.
I see it a lot at work. People that want to get sober do it, all the way. And they fight every day to do it. Until they're ready, there's a thousand little crutches and excuses.
On a more personal note, my brother has been an addict since he was 15, now 31. He needs weed to get through the day due to his anxiety, per his statements. He relapses every other month and goes on a drinking bender or steals somebody's pills, every few years he really goes off and overdoses and either has a hospital or jail stint, usually goes to rehab afterward for about a month.
Weed is great for some people. Weed is not the problem. The problem is the person who is addicted and for that person it is a crutch, just like any other drug, legal or otherwise.

I personally wouldn't be okay with it. I feel like it would leave him open to other temptations and when you go to rehab they tell you to come off everything. Someone I know went for heroin and still smoked weed after recovery and it honestly just head her back to hanging around people who had other things on them. I know that wouldn't always be the case but this is serious stuff. It's not worth the risk. I think it's already A LOT on you to stay with him with this going on and the least he could do is respect you by really doing the program the right way

I'm not sure tbh.... I began to develop a drinking problem a few years ago and pot tremendously helped me stop. I am unable to smoke due to my job doing randoms, but I did it during my 7 days off anyways (swing shift allowed a 7 day off stretch every month). I would smoke one day and then I'd still be clean by the next work shift. I had severe anxiety and depression and was drinking everyday and smoking cigarettes all the time. I was spiraling downhill and decided to smoke weed again because something about it changes my mindset... I stopped feeling so depressed and awful after a couple months and began to drink less and less and even quit smoking cigarettes. Something about smoking occasionally set me straight again and I will forever swear by its medicinal abilities for anxiety and depression because I lived with it and felt the difference between a medicated vs non medicated lifestyle. I would allow my husband to do it, if he were in that situation. But even if he can smoke weed, theres still the chance of too much. It has to be occasional. 24/7 high is bad too. It has to be in moderation because too much can have a bad affect too.
