23 July 1892

Amanda

On the 23rd of July, 1892, Woizero Yeshimebet Ai gave birth to a son, her only surviving child, Lij Teferi Makonnen.

This is not a photo of Yeshimebet, as there seem to be no published photographs of Teferi's mother. Yet we can imagine her pride and joy as she held her newborn son, who would eventually become the Emperor of Ethiopia.

Haile Selassie I's achievements as Emperor, and as champion of African unity and overall human cooperation toward a reality that is just and peaceful, are without number. The things he did and said during his reign as King and Emperor have revolutionized the entire world. All of this began on 23 July 1892, when this great spirit passed through the stargate of his mother's womb and entered into the world as a baby.

We recognize the unity of his parents, Ras Makonnen Wolde Mikael and Woizero Yeshimebet Ali, which brought about his existence in the physical realm. We recognize and honor his mother for going through childbirth to bring him to us. We recognize July 23rd as a day which we will forever celebrate as the Irthcoming of our beloved and esteemed Negusa Negast, JAH Rastafari, Germawi Qedemawi Haile Selassie. We give thankhs!
