RSV is our reality

Jinna

So, this started Thursday, my 6 month old daughter had what we thought were allergies, we live in Texas so it wasn’t far fetched. We took her to the urgent care to get checked out. They diagnosed her with an URI and Pink Eye. They ran the swab and she came back with no RSV even though daycare had a confirmed case.

Fast forward to Saturday and we noticed her nights are rough, the suctioning isn’t effective and she’s more lethargic than ever on top of retracting in her ribs. We take her to a military ER, she’s swabbed again and it came back negative for Covid, RSV, and flu. They could see her respiration’s are high between 50-60/minute and they can hear her actively wheezing so they take her for an x-ray. Her x-ray comes back clear but she’s still not okay. They dismiss us with an URI, send us home. About two hours later I can see it’s not getting better and I’m legit worried she is going to stop breathing, I insist that we take her to a civilian ER that specializes in children. There are 30 families waiting and when we come in, they see her retracting ribs, her sunken eyes, her respiration’s were 75/minute & they rush us straight back to a room with 4 nurses ready to get to work. Her little body exhausted but still fighting and struggling with every breath. They tried suctioning and a nebulizer treatment(didn’t help), swabbed her, within an hour they knew she was being admitted with RSV & actively in respiratory distress

. She got put on high flow oxygen, fluids, and a team dedicated to her 24/7. 2 days later and we are still here, we have no prospective release date. She’s struggling. When I tell you momma’s & daddy’s to listen to your instincts, follow your gut! The doctors confirmed that had we not come in that night, our baby girl, our rainbow baby, wouldn’t be here today. Thankfully we have an amazing support system of friends and family.
