When do allergies for cats show up?

We got a cat on Sunday and it’s now Thursday and my two year old got a stuffy nose and cough out of no where last night. She’s never been around cats before so I’m wondering if she just has a cold or if she’s allergic to the cat. Do allergies to cats show up right away or does it take a couple days?
