When does the second trimester start?

This may sound like a silly question but I’ve had doctors who’ve differed on opinions and I’ve read tons of pregnancy books and there are discrepancies ! So when do you guys consider yourselves in the second trimester ?

It’s completely arbitrary. Since pregnancy is expected to last about 40 weeks split into 3, that’s 13 weeks per trimester + 1 additional week.
You could put that extra week in any of the 3 trimesters, it makes no difference. The chart I go by says the 2nd trimester begins on week 14.

I started counting it the day I hit 13 weeks. A lot of the discrepancy comes from the fact that at 13 weeks you’ve technically finished week 13 and have started on week 14.
