My emotionally abusive ex is upset that I have moved on and am seeing someone new. Why?

He forced me to dump him by ignoring me. He also treated me like trash, would put me down, and would leave me for other women for a night while we were together. So why would he be upset that I am seeing someone new?
The guy that I am seeing is the exact opposite of my ex: he's kind, respectful, sweet, emotionally mature, and we like a lot of the same things. I feel like I've found my match, but my ex seems really unhappy.

Emotionally abusive people can be very possessive. He basically feels like he owns you and is entitled to access to you.
He is being proven wrong and cannot have you on his terms now, so he's upset.
Definitely definitely been there. Literally got harassed for montha by a guy who ignored my existence so bad I had to hunt him down to dump him at all, because he would disappear and not speak to me... and he somehow had the nerve to get mad I was dumping him and say that I shouldn't 😹

A few things I want to say here.
First of all, I'm glad you got away from your ex, but let him be mad, it's not like you're going back to him so you don't need to spare or consider his feelings. Just let it go.
Secondly, my brother has abused at least 2 of his 3 baby mamas (I haven't been on good terms with him in a few years now), but he wanted women that he could control. So if your ex is similar, you having another relationship means another person in your life who can and probably will protect you from him. Also, it means you've made yourself unavailable to him, he knows he's lost his ability to control you emotionally like in the past.
Lastly, and this may or may not apply to you, abusers and those they abuse tend to have complicated relationships to say the least. Many tend to break up and get back together multiple times. My brother's first baby mama and the most recent were years long off and on again relationships. The most recent baby mama is actually his high school sweetheart, while they were still in school they broke up hundreds of times. They both went on to have children with someone else, got back together after a few years apart when their kids arrived, lasted a few months and then they moved on again until 2019 or so, broke up a few times since then even, they got pregnant, finally she had enough and got a restraining order for her and both children of hers. Long story short, because I ramble, each of his relationships come in small spurts, his 2nd baby mama only left once or twice because she felt she had no where to go. He wouldn't let her work, and she had no savings. So when people would tell me so and so left him, it's always an uninterested "oh yeah? Good for them, hope they stay away this time." (Part of his manipulation is telling these women he's not the bad one, it's me and my parents for having wronged him in the past, so I never have good relationships with these women until they hit the done-done point. Which is why I know I can't say anything to them until they're ready to hear it, not that I don't care that I know he abuses women.) 
Anyway, sorry that was long, I hope the examples kind of help explain what I'm meaning. It's probably mostly about the control and he knows he lost it.
