Preface: We have a child together. If I could block him and forget he exists I would. 
Or am I overreacting? My ex always sends texts telling me he misses me. Our relationship was miserable. Every time he texts me it reminds me of all the shitty things that happened in our relationship and I want to explode and get it all off my chest. He also gives me gifts even though I ask him not to.

You can also tell him not to contact you unless it’s to do with your child. If he does just don’t reply because if you do that’s fueling the fire

Unwanted gifts and attention are not a gift at all. Its harassment. You need to make it clear that you do not permit him to contact you beyond coparenting. If he persists, there is a website you can use for coparenting conmunication that by law you can submit to the courts if you wish to, then block him. If he still escalates, you can get a no contact order.
