Pregnant workers and the laws

So I am a director of a small business. An employee that has been with us 2 months just informed me that she is pregnant. I’m very happy for her and I hope that she and the child are happy and healthy.

However, looking at it from the business side.... her job is 100% physical labor. She is dealing with large animals all day. Her first doctors appointment isn’t for a few weeks and she is uncomfortable being around any animals or doing any physical labor until cleared or not cleared by her doctor. Which I understand.

As such a small business, we can exactly afford to just bring on a new person to temporarily take over her role while still also paying her her full salary. I also don’t have much work for her to do if she is physically unable to do the position she was brought on to do.

I want to have her best interest in mind as well as the business. I know there are many laws around pregnant women in the workplace. But I was curious of others experiences.

How do you handle them not being able to perform the job they were hired to do? Temporary leave? She needs the money! So idk if that is the best option. Hire a new employee to temporarily cover her job? We don’t exactly have the funds for that. We would all have to take a pay cut. I’m not sure!
