‼️‼️TW: What do I do when I’m having a miscarriage?

What exactly do you do when you’re having a miscarriage?
I just found out I’m pregnant, never been pregnant before and I’m just so scared!!! I’m scared of losing this baby that my husband and I have prayed and hoped for, for so long. I’m scared of giving birth too lol but I know the pain will be worth it of course!
But in case I were to miscarry… what do I do? Do I go to the hospital? Or just let it pass and make an appt with my obgyn?

Most OB offices have an after hours line, or you can call the ER without going in and they can usually advise you (though they usually say come in to be cautious) but generally if you’re not soaking more than a pad an hour ect then you can stay home and follow up with your midwife. Obviously the further along you are the more risk. Truthfully I worried about the same thing my first pregnancy. It’s better to know what to do and not need the info than the other way around. I had some light spotting this pregnancy and when I went to get checked out the doctor basically told me if I started to experience heavy bleeding to go to the hospital. I was 7, almost 8 weeks at the time. Thankfully I am now almost 11 weeks and all is still good. 😊

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Try not to worry too much about miscarriage. While it is unfortunately common (at 3-4 weeks, the risk is between 50-75%), the risk of miscarriage drops tremendously in the first few weeks. By 5 weeks, it drops to about 21% and by 6-7 weeks, it’s only 5%. 
But to answer your actual question: It depends on how far along you are and what kind of miscarriage you’re experiencing.
I had a chemical pregnancy (a miscarriage before 5-6 weeks) and called my midwife to ask what I should do. They told me to treat it like a period, but to call back if I develop signs of infection like a fever. 
If you’re further along, you may want to go to the hospital or call your doctor and schedule an appointment (depending on the situation) to make sure everything passes. If it doesn’t, you’re at risk for infection and will need medical help to complete the process.
When in doubt, just call your doctor and let them know what symptoms you’re having so that they can properly advise you.
