Will Breastfeeding Be Easier the 2nd Time?

Question

I BF my first until she was just over a year old. I absolutely intend to breastfeed and pump again! But I can’t forget the beginning - it was so painful, I think because of a few bad latches. 
Does the general experience involve less pain the 2nd time around or are The Ladies gonna start from square one?

Just like every pregnancy is different so is every breast feeding experience. There’s so many factors involved it’s impossible to say. However experience and more information is always helpful. For me my first child was allergic to everything and had a lazy latch which made for a miserable bf experience for us both and I held out for 6 months. When I finally stopped bf’ing and switched him to soy formula we were both a thousand times happier and healthier. My first was born at 37 weeks which made a difference too. My second was born at 39 weeks and took to bf like a champ, had no allergies and no issues and I was able to bf for 14 months! Good luck.

I was really hoping that my body would have some sort of memory for it since I nursed until the week before I got pregnant again. My second is 10 weeks and unfortunately, all the early pain was here again. We’re finally to the point where there’s no discomfort. Now it’s just all cooing and smiles, which makes up for the feeling of tiny bear traps on my nipples from the beginning, lol.

I breastfeed my first two and plan on doing so for the third.  I've saw the thompson method and will plan to use this instead of the forced method the hospitals always had you do.  It's a natural process and very easy going

Definitely easier for me the second time around. With my first my nipples were flat and she couldn't latch so I was sent home from the hospital with formula and a breast pump and I had to see a private LC to finally get decent help. I ended up breastfeeding for 19 months. This baby, she latched immediately after birth and it's been mostly smooth sailing except a crack in my nipple that took forever to heal. Coconut oil ended up working way better and way faster for protection and helping it heal up. Additionally, in the early days my first nursed for 40 minutes at a time, and this baby is done in 5-10 most of the time.

I had a harder time the 2nd time actually. I mean both times were painful at the beginning but that went away. Had issues with my 2nd latching and then dropping weight and it was a whole production but finally got it sorted out. Breastfed both my kids to a year

I dunno if this will help, but I found “ Jack Newman’s Visual Guide to Breastfeeding” on YouTube super helpful in learning how to get a good latch with both my kiddos. 💕 I had two different breastfeeding journeys with my kiddos. I wish you all this best.

My first was super painful for literally the first 4-5 months and then it got better. But I can say I was miserable and would cry out whenever he latched and almost quit so many times.  He also had a bad latch I suspect. My second only made me sore for maybe 2-3 weeks. Not unbearable just
Sore. Invest in some breastfeeding lanolin to help with the initial chapping. In my experience it’s so much easier after the first.

Yes and no. You might know what you’re doing this time, but baby still has to learn.
