Egg Allergies, Flu Shot, and Infants

I just wanted share with other moms for those aren’t aware, the flu shot contains egg. When my daughter was 6 months old I opted to give her the flu shot, she had a reaction the next day with rashes on her thighs, runny nose, and itchy eyes. At that time I did not know she had any food allergies. When I spoke to her pediatrician they said it could’ve been a mild case of hay fever (we were visiting my folks in a different state at the time and they have pollen really bad where they live). At 8 months I gave her scrambled eggs and within seconds her face broke out in hives including around her mouth and on her neck. At the ER they asked me if she had reacted to eggs before I said no this is the first time I gave them to her, they then asked if she received a flu vaccine at 6 months and I said yes. They informed me that it had egg in it and asked if she reacted to it and I explained what happened to her after receiving it. So just a heads up for those moms who have not given their 6+ month old infants egg yet and are considering giving them a flu shot. Watch for reactions could very well be a food allergy. Also, I don’t blame her pediatrician, he asked if she had any food allergies prior to giving it her and she didn’t that I knew of so no one is to blame.
