Have you ever had a direct report make more than you?

I bust my a** at work and do all the leg work to bring in the business. My direct report has one very specific task to repeat daily. Yes, she is pretty good at it so she should be fairly compensated. But when she works her 40 hours and has no stress on evenings and weekends or prepping for the next day. She can just show up and do her job.

Whereas I’m constantly under stress to get things coordinated and I make nearly 20% less than she does?

She was brought on from another company where my boss matched her current rate. So that’s where her salary came from.

I joined this small business in its infancy so my salary was on the very low side of fair. I felt like I was slapped across the face that I built the business and now she makes so much more than me.

I want to bring it up in a professional manner so I need to calm down first. But my annual review is in a month so I want to prepare as to what my worth is to the company.
