Tantrums
Has anyone noticed an increase in tantrums lately? My son has been EXTREMELY fussy lately. Especially around mealtimes he will throw his food across the kitchen and throw his utensils if we try to help him pick up a bite of food. He’s even throwing tantrums when we pick him up now because he wants to walk everywhere on his own. Most of the time he’s been pretty chill but lately I don’t know what’s changed but it’s like if you look at him wrong he will throw a fit like the world is ending or something. Like today I was getting lunch ready and was loading the dishwasher at the same time, well he thought it would be fun to climb up in the dishwasher and sit on the door part and play with the rack. My husband came over and picked him up to play in the living room and he completely lost it and started throwing himself back kicking and screaming he couldn’t even catch his breath he was so upset.
I know “tantrums” are a part of them regulating their emotions, but I guess I just didn’t expect it this early on? I always figured it would be closer to 2 (terrible twos?) 🤔 anyway I try really hard not to lose my cool and just explain to him why he can’t be there/do that/touch that, etc. and just be present let him know I understand those emotions and that I’m here for him and offer a hug, cuddle, breastfeed, a toy, snack, etc.
anyone else dealing with this now? How do you manage? Is it just a phase? Any relation to teething molars?
