Chemical pregnancy?

So I've heard of females having a chemical pregnancy. How does that happen and how do you know if you have one or not ?

I may have had one about a year ago, I got a very faint positive on my test then tested again later and it was negative. I called my Dr and they said it was most likely a chemical pregnancy meaning the egg was fertilized but it didn't attach to the uterus. No way to know for sure but it could have been. Hope that helps.

When my period was late. I tested positive on a broad range of tests over the course of three days. Wasn't able to test for 2 days. The sixth day I started spotting brown. Shortly after I was in a lot of pain and tested again to see if the line was still there or getting darker. Nothing but negatives. Then the heavy dark red bleeding started along with a lot of pain. As soon as the tests were negative I knew it was over. They happen for many different reasons. Maybe poor egg quality, early abnormalities, failure to fully/properly implant, too thin or thick of a uterine lining. Many different factors.
