I’m about to get an IUD and I’m not sure which one to do, what do y’all have? Leave a comment with a pro and con please!

I got the copper after my last child (4 years ago) and it has been fine. My periods have become more regular and (until recently) were more stable and lighter. Recently, I’ve noticed they are really heavy for the first day or two then taper off to almost nothing which is fine with me. I had awful periods before. I also lost my milk supply during breast feeding due to hormonal BC so I wanted non-hormonal BC. Haven’t had any problems in 4 years.

I have the copper one and love it!!!!!! Periods are heavy but manageable the first 2ish days, normal after that. Cramps are manageable with pain meds and a heating pad, and they only pop up at the very beginning of my period. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them!

I had the mirena for 5 years and got it taken out in April and I had actually experienced hair loss. I used to have really thick hair and my hair has thinned out a pretty decent amount. It also slowed down my hair growth. Other than that I didn’t seem to have any issues with it. I didn’t have a period for a little over 2 years once I had gotten it put in, at some point my period started again but I only spotted really and only needed a light panty liner. Since getting my iud out my period is still regulating. Sometimes it’s a week early or a week late. It starts really heavy for maybe 2 days and then pretty much diassapears.

I had the Mirena. It helped to thin out my periods. My parents made me get one when I started dating in my late twenties.
I was on my second one, but had to have it removed early. Last year, I suffered from bilateral pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in both of my lungs and in my leg). I couldn't breathe and almost died. After testing negative for all known blood clotting disorders with no personal or family history, my hemotologist believed that it was caused by the IUD.
Estrogen based birth control has a higher risk of causing blood clots than progesterone. I was told that with progesterone or progestin it's very rare. Mirena is progestin based and unfortunately, I was one of the lucky few who developed clots from it

I don’t know if you already decided. But it really all depends on your body. The copper IUD gives heavier periods and cramps. If you have heavy periods I would not recommend it, since it could be very painful. The hormonal one does make your period more manageable, for some people it even reduces their periods. But some bodies do not react well to hormones, some people who are prone to gain weight will gain it. So just make sure you choose what works best for your body. 
I have the hormone one, still get my periods regularly every month also get cramps like I’ve always had. But I do feel safer in the sense that I don’t worry about pregnancy scares at all.

I had skyla for three months. Worst pain in my life. I had it for three months i couldn’t handle the periods now on the pill. My periods are light or nonexistent.

I had the mirena iud, which is hormonal. I really liked it - made my periods much more manageable (the were horrendous before). I didn’t notice any side effects from it like I did from the pill. 
I had my tubes out after my last baby, but if my period is really horrible again when it comes back I’ll be getting another mirena to manage the pain/flow etc.

Copper iud
Pros: non hormonal, dont feel foggy like when on hormones(at least for me), no loss of sex drive, 99% effective 
Cons: got woozy after insertion(hurt like hell when they open it up), bring someone w you or Uber, first period felt like I was gonna die(already had heavy and painful periods but the pain was debilitating) the pain and flow chills out after a few months. 
Overall I like it a lot lot lot better than the pill, I trust it more and it doesn’t bother me. No stress of having to take something everyday at the same time

I have the Mirena because it was what my doctor recommended for me. I love it my periods are so light now. They use to be so heavy I had to wear a tampon & a pad. Now all I wear is a pantyliner. The 1st two months with my IUD were a little rough I had really bad cramps all the time. But after that it got better.
