Please help!! Future Career!
Hi everyone!
So I’m a student teacher right now whose endorsement is in science. In my area there is an EXTREME shortage of science teachers, but at my college I’m the ONLY ONE in science education.
To make a very long story short, the school I am student teaching at has an open science position (right now filled with a long term sub, but in the spring they need to fill it full time). I absolutely adore this school. The faculty and students are incredible, it’s my dream school. Plus it’s only 20min from where I live and where I grew up, so it just feels like home. So of course I applied. However, this school district is notorious for being extremely slow when it comes to interviews and final decisions. I wouldn’t be able to start until end of November (graduation date), but obviously I’d like to know I have a job when I graduate. For this district it could literally take weeks or even a couple of months before I get an interview or get told anything.
Due to this, I applied to another district that’s an hour and a half away. I don’t know too much about this district but they’re in desperate need of a science teacher as well, so I figured I’d apply. Better to have a backup and at least try, right? WELL I emailed the HR director because I was confused about the position I was applying for and just wanted clarification as to whether it was a middle school or high school position. And he sent up my interview right on the spot before I even applied!!
Obviously this is good, but I am nervous because the place I’m truly wanting takes forever to make a decision but the place that’s my back up is extremely quick. I feel like I’ve now put myself in a difficult position. This is a good problem to have, but still a problem. I’ve already set up my interview and have yet to hear from the other school.
What should I do if I’m offered this job before I can even interview for the other? How do I handle this situation??
I’m extremely nervous and stressed over it. Please someone give me advice
