If he wants to then yes plus it's hard to enforce. If it helps him soothe himself I see nothing wrong with it for now.

It's a hard habit to break. They always have their thumb available. It can cause problems with their teeth later on. Plus once they are older, it's really unsanitary. They go from playing in the dirt and sand to sucking their thumb.

I've taught kindergarten for a few years and have only had 2 children who still sucked their thumbs. Most kids grow out of it.

Don't let them. It's cute. But I sucked my thumb for a VERY long time. Like a really long time. And it made the arch in my mouth super high. My thumb still fits perfectly up there.

If the habit is developed and lasts, they can ruin the shape of their mouth and palate. I pull his thumb out of his mouth and give him an orthodontic pacifier, ifhehas to has something to help soothe him, i would rather it be the option that doesn't ruin his mouth

I don't mind it and even kinda hope my newest little guy will find his thumb but I might be biased. I sucked my thumb as a child and even through my teens and early 20's if I was sick or depressed. My oldest sucks his thumb and he's very self reliant and goes to bed with no issues. My middle son never took to it or a paci, he had poor suck as a baby. He is a super mommas boy and was difficult to settle until he found his lovey when he was 2ish.
