What is hsv1?

Me and my sister found out we were pregnant at the same time and only a week apart. She’s freaking out about hsv1 at her results today but I told her it’s just oral herpes and doesn’t mean she has an Std like herpes. She’s asked if mine ever came up positive and I told her no but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had it and that the test may not always be positive. Am I right or wrong???

You’re correct!
Hsv1 is just oral herpes or cold sores. About 70% of the population has it and of those 70%, about 50% are asymptotic and have the virus but will never have an outbreak.
I got it from sharing a cup with my mom when I was little, but have only ever had one outbreak when I was 15!

The vast majority of people have HSV and just don’t know it. Her baby will have antibodies, so that’s a positive 🤷🏻‍♀️

HSV1 is herpes simplex virus 1. It is most common on the face but it CAN be spread to other areas if you touch your face and then touch some other mucus membranes. It is different from HSV2; herpes simplex virus 2 which IS an std and most common on the genitals. HSV2 can also be spread to other areas the same way as HSV1. 
Both are lifelong and easily controlled with medications.
I have HSV1; I was born with it, as are many people, but never had an outbreak until I had exposure to someone else with an outbreak. In my case I drank from a cup after my dad while he had an outbreak.
My husband does not have HSV1 and, even though I’ve accidentally exposed him, has never had an outbreak and likely never will because it’s not in his system. I have 6 blood siblings and only 1 other has HSV1 so either they others weren’t born with it or have never been exposed at the right time to start having outbreaks.
This is how HSV1 and 2 have been explained to me by medical professionals.
