Cannyou be dilated without contractions ?

Do you have to be getting contractions for you to be dilated? Or is it possible to be dilated without getting any contractions?
My doctor said im most certainly not dilated because no contractions yet. She will check me next week to confirm. FTM here.

Maybe she just meant not dilated enough to be admitted. Sure you can be dilated a few cm without having contractions.

I went in for a checkup at 4pm and they didn’t let me leave. I was 4 cm dilated. I didn’t know and didn’t have contractions for another 5-6 hours. Baby was born about 3 hours later.

Contractions don’t equal dilation. On my due date with my second I was 4 cm dilated and had no idea, hadn’t had one single contraction.

Yes you can. Pressure of baby's engaged head and gravity can cause a few cm of dialation.

I’m not sure. I know you can be dilated and not feel the contractions. I was. All the way up to 4cm’s and didn’t feel any of the contractions they said I was having
