Supposed to be an October baby but came in September

My due date was October 7th. I was told I would have her early. My doctor at maternal fetal medicine wanted her delivered at 38 weeks. After a frustrating process of getting my c-section scheduled, we were finally given the date of September 23rd. I have had to do non stress tests (NST) twice a week and biophysical profiles (BPP) once a week. I was scheduled to see my OB on 9/17. At that appointment, he did an ultrasound to check my amniotic fluid and the length of the scar from previous incisions from previous c-sections (this was my 4th c-section, 3rd in the left uterus). He also did a vaginal exam and said I was 2-3 cm dilated and 75% effaced. The measurements of the scar and me being dilated had him a little concerned because he didn’t want my uterus rupturing or me going into active labor. I was also scheduled to have an NST and BPP later that afternoon. Doctor scheduled me to go back in the office to see him on 9/19, but said he didn’t feel that I would make it through the weekend (c-section was already scheduled for 9/23). About an hour after my appointment, I had started having mild contractions. By the time I went to the hospital for the NST and BPP, they were coming frequently. When they hooked up the monitor, nothing was showing and they said she passed the NST. She failed the BPP for breathing and the pain was getting stronger. The nurse said she felt it was positional and that the baby may be laying on a nerve and suggested ways to get her to move (she was breech). The doctor wanted me back at the hospital the next day (9/18) to have the tests repeated. I had to be there at 11:30. I had my son scheduled for a haircut at 9:00am so I took him. The pain had gotten excruciating by that point. It hurt to walk, move, or do anything. By the time I got to the hospital, I was in tears. Again, when they hooked me up for the NST, the nurse said I wasn’t having contractions. The baby passed the NST. When the ultrasound tech came in for the BPP, she laid the bed flat and as soon as she started the ultrasound, I was bawling and wriggling on the bed because it hurt so bad. The tech said the baby passed the BPP that time. My OB came in the room right after she walked out to check on me. He instantly asked why I was crying so I explained the pain and everything that was going on. He had me explain it to him 3 times. He then did an abdominal and vaginal exam. I was dilated 4cm. Doctor said we were delivering that day. After a scramble of getting someone to pick up my other kids so my husband could come up and be with me (due to Covid restrictions, he was in the car and we didn’t know I would be delivering that day). Anesthesia said they couldn’t do the c-section until 3:00-3:30 because I had breakfast at 9:30 that morning (and they were told I wasn’t in labor). They moved me to a different room and hooked me up to the monitors. As soon as I was hooked up, the contractions were showing coming close together and strong. All of the pre op testing was done (scheduled for 9/20) so it wasn’t done when I arrived at the hospital on 9/18) and we waited. Anesthesia came in at 3:00 to get all of their stuff started and I was wheeled back to the OR. After what seemed like forever to get the spinal administered and the surgery started, my husband was brought back to the OR with me. I watched my entire c-section through the reflection on the ceiling. I witnessed the scariest event of my life through that reflection and knew something was wrong when the anesthesiologist covered the clear plastic drape that was uncovered so I could see my baby. She came out blue and not breathing. The nurses hurried up and took her to the warmer and tried getting her to breathe. They also had to call respiratory up to help. When they were able to get her breathing, her oxygen was still very low, even on full oxygen. They took her to the nursery to work more on her. I was a panicked mess. I had to wait for the doctor to finish closing me up and the anesthesiologist to perform a tap block before I was able to get back to my room and see my daughter. Oaklynn Rayne was born on September 18th at 4:25pm. She weighed 6lbs 14.7oz and was 18” long. She is absolutely perfect today. She is now 2 weeks old and the light of our little family’s lives.
