I have slight red discharge what does it mean 36 weeks

Could be cervical irritation from sex or better not checked recently. You could be losing your mucous plug. All of which is normal and not a need to go to the hospital. Unless you’re worried about baby’s movements or lack of or something is wrong don’t go to the hospital. Once you start contracting and their 5 mins apart for an hour then you can go otherwise they’ll just send you home.

Any bleeding/spotting I would call my dr just in case, see what they suggest.

Is it like spotting? I would say youre OK. It could be apart of the mucus plus / bloody show starting to release. 
If it was heavy dark red blood gushing / clots/ cramps I would go to the clinic. But it sound like mucus plug and some light bloody show which happens around this time. I slowly lost my plug over months with both of mine. 
To help reassure yourself try and do some kick counting. :)
