First off, he never apologized so do not forgive him. Second off the reason why he is saying these things is because he knows your worth. He does NOT want you to see it because if you did, you’d leave his sorry ass. It sounds as though he’s super insecure and projecting because he’s afraid that if you saw how out of his league you are you would realize you can do better. And you CAN. 
Not even looks wise. A confident guy who is willing to let you shine beside him, not behind him. You realize that there are guys out there that would treat you like an absolute queen?? He doesn’t want you to think you have a chance with them. Please leave him, hes dulling your shine.

We were on the phone. He showed me the instagram page of a girl he asked out before me (why? I don’t know. I guess he “gets off” on that sort of thing, because this isn’t the first girl he’s shown me on instagram that he’s liked, or was interested in), and I said that the girl he just showed me was gorgeous and I was impressed because I generally don’t like his taste in women/his exes. But somehow he took that as, that I didn’t think he was capable of getting “hot” women. Which wasn’t what I was saying or implying at all…. I find him very attractive, and I think of course he can get “hot” girls or whatever it is he was referring to. I just told him I generally don’t find his taste in his exes that attractive, just my personal opinion. But I just don’t know why he had to reply so defensively and egotistically, to the point of him basically “putting me down” - I find what he said to me a little verbally abusive on his part. —Btw, he says all my exes are hideous lol and I always laughed it off, because I never dated my exes for their looks (I’ve never dated for looks, I’m not vain like that), I’ve always dated someone because of their personality and “the connection” that I had with them. And I would never put him down after all the times he said my exes were “not attractive” — And believe me, he’s been saying all my exes are “ugly” and that none of them compare to him “looks wise.” 🤦‍♀️ It’s all so vain. And the comment he said to me really f***ing hurt. I don’t know what to do. Is he that vain and verbally abusive….? Is it just me overreacting?? He’s got my head all screwed up, I don’t even know anymore. 😕

I have a feeling there is much much more not being said that this is only one of the things you even feel remotely safe or comfortable talking about. I have been there and I know the signs. This post is a cry for help I know that men who act like that, emotionally abusive (and that is abuse what he's doing even if it stops at the comments) are usually also abusive or it grows there if the emotional stuff doesn't hold you in your dungeon it will worsen as much as you allow. What those comments and the neglect is to do is to keep you in a relationship that he in facts knows the opposite, that you would leave if you discovered your worth is much more then his. So in turn he belittles you and makes you feel like you're worthless. He is worthless and knows that. You deserve better. Do not!!!!!! Listen to him and please don't stay. I know it's hard to leave but if you're asking and that's happening ypu already know the answers hun. You have to just be strong enough to do what it takes to leave and find better
