Thickened nuchal fold at 18 week ultrasound

I just left the lab to get NIPS screening done after my OB appointment this morning. They detected a thickened nuchal fold at my 18 week ultrasound. DS does not run in my family, or my boyfriends family. But I understand this could be a sign of it. Has anyone else had this happen and their baby didn’t end up having DS? I am just curious about other mamas outcomes with this, as this is so unexpected. Im not sure what else it could mean either so anyone’s input or experience would be amazing.

UPDATE: felt like updating my post for any other mamas who come here searching for answers. At my 18 week ultrasound, the thickened nuchal fold was measuring 6.58mm. Between 18-22 weeks, anything >6 mm is considered abnormal. I got my NIPS screening results back and everything came back negative. I still have an additional ultrasound scheduled for a couple of days from now, just to double check for any other markers! Although at my 18 weeks ultrasound, they said everything else they checked looked perfect. I will update again after my appointment in a couple of days!
