Hiii mommas , anyone have a cat during pregnancy ?

We’re thinking about adopting a cat for our family but I’ve been reading some stuff about toxins found in the poop and can past to you and your baby. Not sure how true this is or if this is facts. Can you please share your experiences 🐱 thank you ☺️ should I wait until after I have my baby girl to adopt ?

Toxoplasmosis
Do some research on it, people say not to change the litter because that's the only way to get it, but that's a HUGE myth.
I have 2 cats, I just adopted another one in my second trimester. I'm not even slightly concerned about toxoplasmosis. Why? Because cats don't naturally carry toxoplasmosis. They need to get infected with it first, they get infected with it by eating something that is also infected with it, so a bird, rodent, or maybe old meat. 
And it doesn't last forever, once they are infected, it will only last a few weeks.
My cats are strictly indoor cats, they only eat food I give them, so the chances of them getting it is SO rare. And then you need to look at the chances of you getting it from them. You would literally need to ingest some of the cats feces in order to get toxoplasmosis. So if you change the litter every day and then wash your hands right after, even with an infected cat, your chances of getting it is SO slim. 
You have a much higher chance of getting toxoplasmosis by eating undercooked meat than from a cat. Or gardening, because soil can carry toxoplasmosis as well, so technically you can get it from eating unwashed vegetables as well.
This is just fear mongering, as long as you have common sense your chance of getting it is almost zero. Like don't eat cat poop, wash your hands, wash the things you eat off of, and cook and wash your food thoroughly, and you'll be just fine. Also keep your cat indoors! 
And even if you do get it, toxoplasmosis is not a death sentence. It's treatable, and only a small percentage of people end up with a miscarriage

I have two cat’s and the only thing I was told was the ammonia in their pee isn’t good for you so my husband cleans out their litters. I find it a bit hard to breathe if the litters get to full but other then that, this is my second pregnancy with them and I’ve had no problems.

I have two cats and I still change their litter. They are both inside only cats plus I obviously wash my hands well after handling the litter. I think you have a bigger chance of getting infected from gardening than you do having cats. 🙂

I have cats and have been doing the litter box the entire time. Baby is good. Just have to be careful. If you do get one and you’re the one to change litter and clean it out, just make sure you wash your hands good and my doc told me to wear a mask. In my previous pregnancies, I had cats too and done the same thing and my kids came out fine. It’s totally up to you though on what you decide.

I had a cat since last October up until august of this year and I was pregnant through most of having her, you just can’t change the litter box, I always got my boyfriend to do it, and I always bathed her about 2 times a month just to keep her cleaner

We’ve had between 2-4 cats ever since we had our first over 5 years ago. Toxoplasmosis is the main concern and honestly if the cat stays inside and doesn’t eat mice and other wild animals, it’s not even an issue. We’ve never had any issues with any of our babies. And we just LOVE our furry friends! 😻😻 Our girls love them and our most asshole cat is OBSESSED with our eldest daughter. 🤣 Their bond is so special. ❤️

I just have my husband change the litter. My cat also loves to put his littery paws into my water and drink it, so if I notice I have an unattended cup of water I left out....I just grab a new one because most likely his paw will have been in it. Cats can be your best friends during pregnancy. Mine sleeps on my pillow every night now!
