How does this go??? *First time mom*

Question

Hi all! 
So here is my question/concern
I am being induced at 39w because, based on our last ultrasound, 10/13, our sons head measures a week ahead of his body and he's already 6lbs (I'm 34w6d rn). I am VERY excited and nervous all at the same time. This is my first baby. I agreed to the induction because my OB/GYN said that it would make birthing him a little less painful since he's already so big, gave me a run through of benefits and risks, and said that I could definitely wait for it to happen naturally if I so chose, but that this was an option and she definitely recommends it, with baby's growth rate (74th percentile). 
I agreed because I am just so eager to meet my sweet boy and if it really will help, then I'm all for it! 
Now...she said they would be giving me a pill, and breaking my water for me. The induction is scheduled for 6pm. I have no idea how any of this works 🙃 
1. Will they send me home after giving me that pill? 
2. Can I choose to stay in the hospital if they want to send me home? (Only asking this because it's actually quite a drive from my house to the hospital and can't afford a hotel/motel stay rn) 
3. When they pop my water, will it hurt? Will I even feel it?
4. How long should it take for actual labor to begin after being induced??
If there is any advice that anyone could offer me, I would greatly appreciate it! Whether it be about the induction, ways to deliver once it starts, hospital bag contents, what to bring for baby and myself...anything helps!

Inducing u isn’t going to make labor easier lol it’s actually more likely to make labor longer and harder because ur essentially forcing ur body into labor when it’s not ready. Measuring a week ahead shouldn’t warrant an induction before 40weeks imo. My baby’s have always measured much bigger, and my most recent is in 98th percentile with a Huge head lol and I went into labor on my own on my due date and it was a very quick and easy labor so don’t let them scare u into an induction. Breaking ur water will probably hurt unless U get the epidural in which case u won’t feel it.

Ive never been induced but from what ive been told its actually more painful than going into labor on your own and very rarely is a baby too big for your body. Inductions also have a higher risk of emergency csections so i would consider all of your options before committing to one plan

My induction was the most painful thing I’ve ever been through and I’ve had an ectopic that ruptured as well as gallstones
I had the balloon and I cried all night because I was in so much pain, they couldn’t keep up with it with normal pain killers and I only dilated from 1 to 2cm
It was a relief when my water was broken and the epidural was put in

My baby was bigger (8lb 9oz) altho they est that she was 9lb 1oz at 39 weeks, which would have made her over 10lbs by the time she arrived naturally at 41 weeks if they were correct. I gave birth to her fine. 
Personally I wouldn’t have chosen an induction. My friend was induced on the Monday morning, had nearly a week in hospital being poked and prodded, in pain but very little progress and ended up with an emergency c section on the Saturday morning. I’ve also heard lots of ppl say that inductions hurt more because ur forcing ur body to do something it’s not ready for.

I had an absolutely horrible experience being induced (37weeks due to high blood pressure). I would never, ever choose that if I had a safe alternative.  Labor was long, painful,  and had complications

I had 2 inductions one at 40+3 and one at 39+1. The first was because it was after my due date and baby seemed big. They only used pitocin and did break my water. She was born 12 hours later. I did get and epidural and I agree contractions with induction are way harder. My second baby they wanted me to be induced because he seemed big also. I was pretty much in labor on my own when we went for the induction. I didn’t realize before we went in though. Baby was born 6 hours after receiving pitocin. Had no epidural this time.

1) No, you won't get sent home. And typically they will wait to break your water. They will give you the pill to loosen and prep your cervix for labor, and then you will stay under observation for 12 hrs. Hopefully after those 12 hrs are up, your cervix is ready for labor and they'll start with other forms of induction (most likely pitocin).
4) For most people, I'd say active labor will start 12-24hrs after induction starts. For me, the pill put me into active labor within 10 minutes and then baby came out 7hrs later 🤷‍♀️. Rarely does the pill put people into active labor so don't expect this to happen to you, but good luck!

I was induced (pitocin) starting about 8pm on a monday night.  They’ll keep you in the hospital.  My water ended up breaking on its own Tuesday morning. The risk with it breaking so early relative to when my body was actually ready to deliver was that I could get infected..which I did.. so they had to check my baby to make sure he was ok after delivery.  When I was finally dilated, they had me do a couple practice pushes and baby’s heart rate was dropping. Then they did an emergency c-section right after midnight Wednesday morning.  Not to scare you.. just painting a picture of what could happen. I ended up being fine and so was my son, just a little traumatic in the moment. But honestly I was pretty out of it and didn’t really process until days after!
