Foot massage???

Hi everyone, I am current 12 weeks pregnant and went in for a foot massage today. 
My friend told me pregnant women should avoid foot massages because of risks involved. Now I feel terrible. Does anyone know if it’s ok or had one unknowingly? Thanks

Youre fine. I got pregnant in massage therapy school and it was never an issue. Theres actually very little evidence that contraindicates massage and reflexology unsafe in the 1st trimester anyway. Theres more that supports it to be healthy

Same reason people say to avoid pedicures, which is not accurate. Enjoy getting your feet massaged, enjoy getting a pedicure, there's many things pregnant women should avoid but this isn't one of them!

There is 1 pressure point on back of your leg right above the ankle, below the calf that "may" stimulate contractions. That said, I had professional therapists intentionally focus on this area multiple times to try to self induce before my medically necessary induction at full term, and besides getting more braxton hicks than usual for a couple of hours, nothing happened. If youre not feeling contractions, youre fine.

So there is a pressure point in your feet/ankles that can trigger contractions and start labor. Some people use it try and self induce. I know when I was pregnant my nail place refused to give me foot rubs with my pedicure because of the liability. Chances are slim that it would actually work, as they’d have to hit the specific spot and work on it long enough, but it is possible. I started massaging the spot when I was about 38 weeks trying to self induce and it definitely did give me contractions. Just didn’t get labor going.
