Covering for Coworker

I’ve become very frustrated at work with a certain person. She’s not even in my department, but she her job is similar to mine.

Back in February, I received an email from this person along with her boss and mine that they asked for me to help cover her work while she was on vacation.

No problem!

However, upon reading her request, starting in April she requested 2-3 days of PTO every 3 weeks until October. Then in October she requested an entire week. I wasn’t happy, but I had no choice.

After the third time I covered her, she started slacking off. Leaving me with her work she didn’t get finished, she never worked ahead to help me out, and I then had no option but to work overtime to be able to get my work done because hers took all day. I expressed to her that I had to work overtime and to PLEASE try to work ahead. It was always “oh that’s rough” and “yeah I’ll try”.

After her last request, she told me she had days over the holiday she was taking also and she would “work with me” because I told her I was also taking time off.

I’m over it! It’s not fair I have to work overtime to cover her when she won’t put in the effort to work ahead so I can actually get to my work in a work day!

Give me advice! How would you handle?!
