I know Isla is common these days but I like Ila.

Isla is such a normal name nowadays, I don’t think teachers or peers or anyone will struggle to say it by the time the kid is in school.
Ila doesn’t look like it’d be pronounced like Isla though. The i doesn’t make its long sound in that context. It’d be ill-uh, with a short i sound.
Alternative spellings for Isla that would work include Eila and Iyla.

Isla is also a word for island pronounced IS-Lah. And I personally think if you go that route they’ll be correcting their teachers all through school

I would pronounce these differently. Isla = eye-lab and Ila = ee-lah 
I see some saying that others will not know how to pronounce, but I don’t think that will be an issue for long. Isla is ranked as the 44th most popular name given to girls in the US in 2020 (according to social security data) and soon enough more and more people will encounter one and know the pronunciation.
