First period after miscarriage?

Hello! I have a question that may seem dumb, but I’m having trouble understanding.

So I had a miscarriage on 10/9. I’ve been going to my doctor to have blood drawn every 10-14 days to test out the hcg. Almost 2 weeks ago I stopped spotting from the MC, but then started spotting again a few days ago. I got my hcg tested again yesterday and it was 4.4. My office called and said I wouldn’t need to come back in to have it checked again since it’s <5. I asked about the new spotting and she said it’s probably still from the mc. A few hours after getting off of the phone with her I start bleeding heavier like a normal period and I’m cramping as I normally do when I’m on my period.

So my question is- is this really still from the mc or is it possible it’s my period? I have been reading that you don’t get your period back until your levels are at 0, but then other articles say <5 is considered 0. We plan on ttc again asap, but I was told I need to wait until after my first cycle. I don’t want to mistake bleeding from the mc as my cycle.

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question. It’s so hard to understand what’s happening with your own body after all of this 😔
