Extremely painful cervical checks?

Hello all! I am currently 36W1D and I had my GBS test today. We also tried to do a cervical check but it was extremely painful. She could not even reach my cervix. Since about 27 weeks I have had no luck with any kind of cervical exam. It is incredibly painful no matter who does it including myself. Has anyone else experienced this? I have some swelling on the outside that looks like bruising, but to the touch there is no pain on the outside just when they try to do the cervical exam. It is so painful that it literally brings me to tears.
