Why my breasts tender if I didn't ovulate?

So I'm one day late for my period now.

I have been doing opk tests since cd17 and all are negative ovulation. Usually my boobs hurt after day 15 (ovulation day) but didn't this time so I thought I might ovulate later. Until now all my OPKs are negative and since yesterday I have tender breasts. How is this possible?

Usually tender breasts are my sign that I have ovulated. I know for sure for the past 15days that I didnt..

I'm so confused.
