meloxicam for dogs

my elderly dog has been crying and restlessness. our doctor gave us meloxicam to try for him. he has a bad liver though, he’s kidneys are okay. I always get really worried trying out new medications on him but I don’t want him to be in pain or uncomfortable. does anyone have experience with this??
