I'm in disbelief
I'm in disbelief! My husband and I got married on November 16th and that was the last day I took my birth control. We knew we wanted to start trying to conceive, but we also knew it would probably take some time. I had no idea if my cycle would be regular or how long it would take my hormones to even out (I'd been on birth control for 8 years). We got over excited and were analyzing all my symptoms - which could easily be explained by something else - and we took two tests WAY early. We knew it was unlikely that pregnancy would be detected at that point, but the negatives still brought us down a little bit. I had decided not to get my hopes up, and to wait to test again until I had completely missed the period that Glow predicted. You always hear stories about little kids, or dogs, or old people close to death being able to sense that a woman is pregnant before she knows. I'm an RN and over the last three days I had been taking care of a wonderful patient. She was 83 years old and had been in the ICU after respiratory failure. She was incubated for 6 days and barely made it. During the days I took care of her, we had gotten very close. I told her I was a newlywed and she had been giving me marriage advice. She was so super sweet and we got along like we'd known each other forever. Well, yesterday the strangest thing happened. She was sitting up on the side of the bed with her feet dangling, and I knelt down to wash her legs and feet. She got all excited and said, "you're not going to do that! I'll lay back and put my legs up!" I said, "you're fine! I can handle it." Then, she gave me a strange look and said, "are you pregnant?" I was a little taken aback. I said, "not that I know of". And trying to be silly I said, "why? Do I look pregnant?!" She said, "no. Are your breasts tender?" I didn't even hesitate to say yes as they've been killing me. She didn't say anything; just gave me a funny look. Still trying to joke around I said, "you're not one of those people who can sense that a woman is pregnant before she knows are you?!" She smiled and said, "all I'm gonna say is, if someone throws you a baby shower, I want to be invited." I had instant goosebumps and couldn't get it out of my head for the rest of the day. I dreamt about her last night and decided to test this morning while my husband slept. I got a very faint line on a cheap test, then went to Walmart and bought an assortment of others. I was amazed to see a line, then a plus sign, then a "yes", then a "pregnant". I'm trying to contain myself so I don't run and jump in my sleeping husband. He was up late studying and he has a final today, and I don't want to ruin his concentration. I'm just at a loss. I'm sorry this is so long, but I just got so excited to tell my story! I hope the rest of you ladies get your BFP soon; baby dust to all!
By the way, I'm going to call and my patient and get her address. 😜
