Is Rhogam needed if both parents are Rh-?

Marisa

My husband and I are both O-, yet my OB is aggressively pushing me to get the Rhogam shot. When I ask for rationale, she just keeps repeating that it’s “the standard of care for all Rh- patients”. But if I’m O- and so my baby’s father (yes I’m 100% he’s the father), I don’t see how this baby could be Rh+. Rhogam is an amazing drug and has no doubt saved many lives, but why take something that isn’t medically necessary? It’s a category c and a blood product and I’d rather not take it if I don’t have to. The only thing I was able to find that says that two Rh- parents can have an Rh positive child is this:

There were no sources, and I’m wondering if this is a BS answer or if there is any merit to it. Does anyone out there know of an instance where this has happened? Has anyone had an adverse reactions to Rhogam? Or does anyone know why it’s the standard of care? Is it primarily because they doubt paternity? Any information on this is appreciated.
