Is a genetic NT test mandatory?

I can’t afford it out of pocket and I don’t think it’s covered by my insurance but my OB made the appointment for me to go get it done ? Do I HAVE to?

You can always call your insurance to check. And if they say it’s not, ask your OB if there’s a different way to code it so it’s covered.

Definitely not mandatory. I never did it when I was pregnant with my son and didn’t do it this pregnancy for the same reason as you, we can’t afford that out of pocket cost and insurance is a joke and I don’t want to take the risk hoping they will cover it then get a surprise bill

It was only covered for us because my son carries the sickle cell trait. Otherwise we’d be paying out of pocket.

I didn’t do the NIPT test at all. It’s my first pregnancy and neither of us have anything in our immediate family lines that have us with cause for concern. They confirmed at my anatomy scan that baby girl doesn’t have any of the markers for anything so it turned out ok for us. 
I didn’t think insurance would cover it for us since it’s our first and there wouldn’t be a reason to test for anything since our history’s are clean.
