Eve Needs to Stop
Is anyone else really tired of the weird, patronizing way Eve’s posts, horoscopes, and gems are worded? I’m a grown woman, stop calling me “girlie” or “babe” when I’m just trying to track my period. It’s infantilizing. Not to mention the way that the non-women on this app have repeatedly expressed their discomfort with the nicknames and condescending tone, and have been ignored.
Mostly it’s just kind of annoying and feels very fake, but it started to actually bother me when I read a gem about sexual assault the other day. The first sentence was, and I quote, “Baby, we know it feels bad.”
Say that out loud to yourself, and try to imagine how the hell someone thought that was an okay phrasing. It didn’t get any better from there. This is an incredibly disrespectful and insensitive way to address survivors of sexual violence.
I know it might seem like a small issue, but this is something I think the app creators should work on - i get called “sweetie” and “baby” by men on the street all the time, and it’s exhausting. I’d like to have a health app support empowerment rather than infantilization.
