Progesterone supplements

I started progesterone supplements after ovulation this cycle. My doctor told me to take it until my period comes or if I’m pregnant to take it until 10 weeks. My question is, do I stop taking it if I don’t get pregnant so my period will start? Or will my period start on its own even if I’m taking the progesterone?

I’ll call my office tomorrow and ask, but just curious is anyone is familiar with this.
