How to find a good councilor ?

I’ve tried two in the past and they were awful. I just got diagnosed with cancer at 22 and would like to try again for mental help. How can I find someone really good who is compassionate.

I tell patients finding a therapist is a lot like dating. You’ll find a lot of duds. It has to do with personal chemistry if you get on with them or not. Im a therapist and went through 7 before I found one I like.

I have not ever visited a therapist, but I’ve looked online at life coaches and I love reading their bios!  So start there, then make appts with the ones you align with. But I imagine you might have to go through a couple to find the right fit! Although maybe you could find a perfect one right away❤️

I’m very sorry for what you’re having to go through. The best way is to research and keep trying. Just because one person worked for someone doesn’t mean they’ll work for you too. Maybe you can find a cancer support group and they can help you better locate an appropriate therapist.
