Should I go for it? Or something else?

5 years ago I went to school for medical billing! The prerequisites were hell! But when I finally got to the medical billing courses I noticed quickly that the teachers weren’t teaching us everything we needed to know or wasn’t putting their all into teaching. My last quarter I found out I was pregnant and thankfully I passed my last semester I don’t know how but I did it! Once I got my certificate I just focused on working at my job and getting ready for my daughter’s arrival. I never really applied for medical billing jobs until now 5yrs later I remember some things but not all that I should know! I really want to put my certificate to use and find a job in medical billing but isn’t having any look due to no experience! So should I just give up and go back to school for something different? Or keep pushing forward and find a job in medical billing?

Make sure you make it clear on your resume that you have been educated in medical billing. Otherwise just keep applying. Eventually you will hear something from someone and you will land a job. Persistence is absolutely key to getting a job - this coming from someone who has worked in the field and was a certified medical coder. I went to school for medical coding and billing, I took my CPC exam and passed, and I worked for a cardiology clinic in billing and did some of the coding for them too. I let my credential go only because I decided I want to work in patient care - and so will be starting nursing school this month. Don’t give up with medical billing. It’s a great field and highly rewarding. You just have to be persistent.

I bet an employer would just want to know you had your certification (or whatever it is you need) and they’ll be plenty of training once you get hired!

I’m so nervous!! I literally don’t know anything I don’t want to screw up.
