What gender is best for boy cat?

So we have one pet it’s a boy kitten. May consider getting him a little buddy. Had him about 5 months now. (I think he’s 7 or 8 months old) We have two toddlers (1&4) sometimes he can be a little too playful with them as if they are kittens as well lol. He’s never mean by the way he’s very lovey but he will randomly jump on them and “bite” them playful like. He’s knocked the 1 year old down lol. Would it be best to get another male or female? Or does it matter? He’s neutered.

Gender really wont matter much but i would get one close to his age.

As everyone else has said, gender doesn't matter so much. I've had/ currently have both male and female cats at the same time and it makes no difference. But get another one soon if you want one, so they can bond while they're still young.

It’s never mattered with any cats I’ve had. We happened to rescue a female cat when my male cat needed a friend. They’re great together.

If you do get another male you’ll want to make sure he’s neutered too
