What age did you switch you kid from a crib mattress/toddler bed to a twin mattress?

What age did you switch your kid from a crib mattress to a twin size bed? I’m debating on what to get my son. He has a small room and will be sharing it starting July.

My daughter has a full size floor bed and just turned 2. She got it at 20 months and loves it. She only went to a full size and not a twin because we already had the mattress and didnt want to buy another. Like you, we need the crib for our second, who is due any day. If you are going to get bunk beds later, you could always get a mattress now and have him sleep on that and then the crib is for the new baby until they are both big enough for bunk beds. Or even just get another crib mattress and have that on the floor for the toddler. No need to buy more things if you are going to switch them out in a year or two.

We converted the crib to a full when he was about 2.5.

My son's crib didn't convert so he went straight into a twin bed at 2 when we transitioned him out of the crib.

We switched him from the crib to a bed at 2.5. We put rails on the side to make sure he didn’t fall out to begin with. He’s now 3.5 so we should probably get around to moving the rails off soon but we just haven’t bothered.

My three are all in toddler sized beds still. They're 5, 3, and 19 months. My 3 y/o and 19 m/o are average sizes for their age but my 5 year old son is tiny and still has plenty of room in his toddler bed. He and my middle one moved out of my room and into their own rooms at 3.5 and 17 months. My 19 m/o moved out of my room at 12 months.

I switched  my son at 16 months   so i could use the crib for my daughter  ( 18 months apart  )  then i just switched my daughter  to a big girl bed she will be 17 months on the 10th .. they both did really well with it . We picked out bedding

You could always take the front of the crib off and let your child start that way. 
Our sons first “big boy bed” was a bed with a slide.
He got that at 1 1/2 - 2
