Would a doctor fight me on a membrane sweep?

Would a doctor refuse a membrane sweep at 38 1/2 weeks even if they gave the okay to try other regimens to get baby to come? Like would they find it unnecessary at that point in time even if you have a scheduled induction for 39 weeks? Not sure if it’s a silly to ask for one at 38 1/2 weeks.

Never hurts to ask. If they say no then you just wait. If they say yes it still may not work. Just one of those things. But you absolutely can ask.

You can always ask. I asked mines at 38 weeks and she told me I wasn't dilated enough and we would talk about it again at 39 weeks. When I hit 39w+1d I went for my appointment in the morning. She did her usual cervical check and I felt some pressure and noticed she was in there longer than usual. A few moments later she was like "remember that membrane sweep we talked about?" Of course I said "yes" she responded with "im doing that now" when she was done I lost my bloody show (tmi she pulled it out). When we were done she and my nurses all told me to "walk as much as possible" so I went to Walmart painfully walked every isle before going home to rest. My water broke the next morning and he was born in the afternoon at 39w3d.

You can always ask. But they’re not usually all that effective to be honest and just run the risk of infection

My provider did My sweep on a Thursday and I went to the hospital the next night though it was midnight so technically Satuday. My induction was scheduled for the following Monday, but baby had other plans. He was born at 6:59am that Saturday morning. 💙

There’s a lot of mixed reviews and feeling about the efficacy of sweeps and the pros vs cons. 
My guess is your doc probably doesn’t find them to be very helpful and do more harm than good. 
Or they figure you’ll be back in a couple days for an induction anyways.  
I had 3-4 unsuccessful sweeps because my body just wasn’t ready.
