As a receptionist do you need to attend meetings?

I’ll be applying for this job and want to be prepared. I’m a shy person so I’m nervous especially if there are any meetings I need to attend as I struggle to communicate sometimes. Any advice is appreciated !! Please tell me anything u need to know as a receptionist! This could be my first job other than being a brand representative at a clothing store.

It depends. When I was a receptionist, I sat in like three meetings.

Well either they want you to watch the phones while they are in a meeting, or they want you in the meeting taking notes, your job is to greet the clients, filing, organization, making appointments, it’s general office duties. Computer skills, typing letters, emailing, you are the face of the company, the first thing that people see when they walk in or come in contact with. You’re gonna have to work on those communication skills because you’re gonna have to talk on the phone and talk to people when they walk in the door and get their information and whatever other issues they may come with. If you can’t handle it, then you need to say I need to get my manager or I need to get someone else to be able to help you, this is not something I can handle on my own. Sometimes people come in screaming and yelling, same thing on the phone, something that’s not your fault but they take it out on you, and you just need to be able to say can you please hold on, I need to get someone else who can handle this. Or if it’s something you can’t handle, then you need to say something to them. They will train you at the job I’m sure, they will tell you what your duties are and what they expect of you, They probably aren’t going to be asking for your opinion and meetings, just probably take notes, and get them things, you may have to take coffee orders, or anything like that.￼￼￼
