HCG riding after miscarriage..

I feel lost, frustrated and confused. Found out I was pregnant a week and a half ago. I started experiencing bleeding shortly after which only got heavier (no cramps which was odd to me) any how, I made a app to get confirmation of my pregnancy and they sent me to get HCG drawn last week and a ultrasound. the scan showed an empty uterus so they had me come in two days later to do more blood work and a scan. The scan still showed nothing so I assumed it was a miscarriage. I get my lapcorp blood results in today to see how my HCG levels were from the previous draw..and it went up by double the amount?? Of course I plan on calling tmw, but I'm confused because shouldn't my levels be dropping if I'm miscarrying? Is anyone familiar with a situation like this? Really hoping it's not an ectopic pregnancy.
