Bf always losing his loved ones

Today my bf found out his uncle passed , since I’ve been with him so many people have passed from family members to family friends. I’ve never really lost anyone close to me so it’s very hard for me to understand what it feels like to have someone close or grew up with pass. I always find myself awkward when it comes to stuff like this and I try the best I can to be there for him. But he’s having friends come over to get his mind off of things which I understand he doesn’t want to talk or even think about it but you’ll still have those feelings tomorrow and the next day. He even told me don’t feel like your not there for me cause you are. But he’s just calling his friends to get his mind off of things.
