BV and pelvic floor dysfunction

Jamie

Hi, I was curious if there is any correlation to bacterial vaginosis causing pelvic floor dysfunction. I’m convinced that may be the issue I’m having as I was treated several months ago, no longer have it (was retested), and don’t have any other infections but I have been experiencing pain and tearing with intercourse and basically any pressure put on the bottom half of the entrance (i think the correct word is perineum but not sure). It feels like I’m being stretched open to max even though it was never an issue before I got BV. I’m planning on going back to my gyno about it and bringing it up because the last time I went in about it he told me that everything looked normal and I’m probably not using enough lube which is 100% not the case. The past week I have been under the impression that this might be a pelvic floor issue and yesterday I had messaged a pelvic floor therapist about it and she responded saying that BV can cause pelvic floor dysfunction however I have tried to find research on it and couldn’t find anything. I just don’t want to go in to see my gyno and bring it up and be just dismissed about it so I want to make sure that this could possibly be an explanation. I haven’t had painless intercourse since October and I thought it would be over after finding out about the BV and being treated for it but that’s not the case obviously and it’s starting to put a bit of strain on my relationship.
