Who pays for the wedding?

Was on a Judge Judy binge and watched a man sue his ex-fiancé over wedding costs. Anywho, the comment section piqued my interest since it was a mixed rebuttals on who should pay for the wedding. Traditionally, the grooms family pays for the rehearsal dinner and honeymoon whereas, the brides family pays for the wedding (venue, caterers, etc.). My main question for this community: Are more modern couples going the traditional route or are they putting their finances together and paying half of everything? Why or why not? Feel free to share your experience.

Edit: I guess in hindsight a poll would have worked better but it seems so far, a lot of the brides families helped out.
