Thoughts on 39 week induction?

My doctor offered me the choice to have an elective induction after I turn 39 weeks. I wasn’t prepared to answer him so I’ve been doing some research and came across the arrive trial. It’s very interesting to me. I’m a ftm and have had a low risk pregnancy. So I meet the same criteria as the women in the study. Interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on inductions/experiences.

The ARRIVE trial has many flaws and biases, I encourage you to research what the other side has to say, there are a few good in depth write ups out there (just Google something like ARRIVE trial biases). I was electively induced with my first at 40 weeks and it was a three day trip through hell, pitocin contractions are NOT normal contractions. The pain was so bad then that when I went into labor with my second, I didn't show up to the hospital until I was already 10cm dilated because I didn't think I was in enough pain to be in labor. Every extra day you can give baby in the womb is another day for their lungs and immune system to develop. When baby's lungs are ready, their body releases a hormone that tells your body to start the labor process.

The idea that babies come when they’re ready simply isn’t always true. I like to look at the facts, including the ARRIVE study. If that’s what has the best potential to keep my kid safe, then that’s what I’m doing.

I’ve been induced 2/3 times, both at 38 weeks. First time because my daughter wasn’t going to make it past that. Second time because I my spd was so bad I couldn’t walk so my doctor said “you have two other kids to worry about, how about we have a baby to get you out of pain?” Other than that I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy. This fourth pregnancy I wanted to go into labor on my own but I fractured my pelvic bone two weeks ago and I can barely walk and it’s not healing due to the baby pressing on it, so my doctor is inducing me at 39 weeks next week. The only thing I really don’t like about inducing is the contractions, they are brought on by medication so basically you’re making your body do something it wasn’t ready to do. So compared to the contractions I had when I went into labor naturally vs the pitocin contractions, I’d chose the natural ones any day. The way they happen it gives you more time to adjust and get used to the pain while on the other hand the dang nurses come in every 30 minutes to up the dosage on the pitocin 😝. 
But what I do like is that it’s a planned day, you have a set time to be at the hospital, and it’s a mire “controlled” situation. 
It has it’s pros and cons but essentially it’s what you’re comfortable with.

I would decline, especially since you’ve had a low-risk pregnancy. Your body and the baby will know when it’s time.

If you’re unsure on it then just simply pass. No need to feel pressured or nervous :)
I was induced with my first and my third labors.
Went into natural labor with my second.
I personally am cool with inductions. I like the process of knowing what’s going to happen next. It was more calm and relaxing for me personally.
My natural labor was only 4 hours start to finish and felt very chaotic and overwhelming.
I don’t really want to go into natural labor again for my 4th.

I had borderline GD so I wasinduced at 39 weeks. My labor was so easy (until they broke my water). From the time they broke my water until I was pushing was less than 2 hours. And I pushed 4 times in 4 minutes and he was out. It really is different for every woman. My SIL pushed for over an hour.

Don’t do it. Also FTM here my doctor told me at 39w during my appointment “I fear she will poop in the womb and that because she’s so high up you will probably end up with a c section” so I listened to her even though my gut said NO NO NO. My SO pushed me to do it as well and the morning of i remember waking up and feeling just a bad feeling. But I went through with it anyways. My contractions were so strong and so close together they made me get the epidural (I didn’t want it) but my body wouldn’t relax at all it was putting stress on my body and my baby. Her heart rate started dropping and my oxygen started dropping it got scary, fast. Next baby I’m doing it MY way. Go into labor myself, no epidural, my way.

I decline ever induction offered to me. My body is way smarter than a doctor and I will let it go in to labor when it is ready.
