Childcare while in hospital?

Question

What are your plans for older siblings when you’re in the hospital? I have an older child who will be 22 months when I’m due. He has never spent the night away from home, and we have no one who can come stay in our home where he’s most comfortable. We are considering a relative watching him during the day and my husband coming home each night so my older son can sleep in his own home and be comfortable. There are obviously cons of this, so I wondered if anyone has done this before?

Hate that this is your situation. I know it’s hard not having an options, especially in situations that’s are out of your hands.

My son will also be 22 months when I should be giving birth.. I stressed about this so much as we are in the same situation.. I've had to come to terms with the fact that nothing is going to be an ideal situation as I have no close family around here.. we may be asking my mother in law to come stay with us from my 37th week onwards if my mum can't make it.. otherwise my husband will be staying with him as we do not have anyone else to take him should I go into labour in the night!

My in laws will be watching the kids while I'm in labor until after baby is born then my husband and family will be helping with child care. Me and baby have to stay in hospital for a few days after birth due to medical reasons

I’m having my step mom and mom watch my 2 boys ages 2 and almost 3 at the time. They are comfortable with staying at their house as they do atleast once a week to get used to being away. 
I suggest letting whom ever your having keep him/her at that time to take him/her a couple times to get used to it considering you don’t know how long you could be in the hospital(given of complications arise) hopefully they don’t.

Our oldest 16, will be helping with his younger siblings 8,7,&3. We have a scheduled induction so we know when we should be going in and I have very fast labors. If I go in in the morning I should have the baby by evening and then my partner will go home to put the littlest to bed and might come back to the hospital. I would prefer he stay home, but he wants to be at the hospital with me

Maybe send him for a practice overnight prior to your labor? It may not go perfectly but kids have survived worse. And if it goes ok maybe that can be your plan

We’ve had family come to our home in the past and that’s the plan this time as well. I’m thinking of sending my husband home in the evenings to get the kids tucked into bed and everything.

My family lives 1/4 mile
Away and will be coming over to be with my four other kiddos. Youngest being a year. He has never been away from me over night just nap time here and there at grandmas. I usually get discharged 12 hrs later so it won’t be to long.
