Dad vs. Boyfriendš«
Ok so today my dad met my boyfriend at my track meetā¦
Hereās a few things you need to knowā¦
1. Iāve almost always lived with my dad, so weāre really close and heās very protective of me.
2. This is my dadās first time meeting my boyfriend.
3. My boyfriend doesnāt exactly have the BEST record because i was late coming home from having dinner with my bf and i had to confess to my dad that i was out with my himā¦
4. My dad is very strict
5. I really love my boyfriend to the point where weāre talking about marriage.
6. This is the first boyfriend Iāve ever introduced to my dad.
So hereās the dilemma:
My team arrives at my meet and is putting up our tent and getting settled from just coming off the bus. My boyfriend, (lets call him Julian), still has his mask on because we just got off the bus. Julian stands up and introduces himself to my dad who also just walked over. The first thing my dad says is āAre you scared of Covidā as he points to Julians mask. Julian says no and takes off his mask. Thereās a bit of silence and my dad just stares at Julian. I make tiny conversation and talk about what events Julian is running.
Fast forward to the end of the meetā¦
Me and Julian are on the field and he leaves to go get food. He says not to leave until he gets back and Iām like ok. My dad walks up and says heās ready to go and I donāt say anything to counter it, so we end up walking back to our team tent to grab my stuff. Iām looking around to see if I can find Julian and calling him so i can let him know Iām leaving because I wanted to say goodbye. My dad can tell that iām slowing down as we walk to the car because i want to find Julian. He continues walking, and in an assertive voice, tells me āLets goā. I eventually leave without getting the chance to say goodbye.
So my question is, do you think this attitude is just because my dad is being overprotective of me or because he doesnāt like my boyfriend? Do you think I should have communicated to my dad that I wanted to say goodbye?
